”The team from Nova Southeastern University came to Daytona Beach to meet with us, they listened to our needs and customized a program for our Synergy Leadership Academy. We found the program to be highly effective and very engaging. Our employees came away with a much higher level of self-awareness and a set of new skills that they could put to use right away. Nova Southeastern University really exceeded our expectations.”

Entrepreneurship Summer Camp and Personal Enrichment (E.S.C.A.P.E.)

High school students deserve the chance to escape their daily routines and spend one week focused on creating ideas for new businesses. This one-week camp of highly interactive sessions will teach high school students the basics of entrepreneurship in addition to creating and building a strategic business plan for their business ideas.

The Entrepreneurship Summer Camp and Personal Enrichment program (E.S.C.A.P.E.) is designed to give high school students with a passion for business an understanding and appreciation for the process of starting a business and maintaining ethical business practices. Our goal is to educate as well as inspire the young entrepreneur.

The Entrepreneurship Summer Camp and Personal Enrichment program (E.S.C.A.P.E.) is open to highly motivated high school students who are in grades 9, 10, 11, or 12 in the 2013-2014 school year, and who have a passion for business and want to learn more about entrepreneurship.

Each day is packed with lectures from NSU professors and South Florida business leaders, lively discussions, and interactive exercises. Topics include:

Day 1: Introduction to entrepreneurship, creativity and innovation
Day 2: Developing a business plan
Day 3: Formulating a marketing plan
Day 4: Financial planning
Day 5: Leadership skills, business etiquette, and presentation of business plans to real CEOs

E.S.C.A.P.E. campers will also get a sense of college life when they visit the H. Wayne Huizenga College of Business and Entrepreneurship, the Alvin Sherman Library, the Don Taft Student Center, and take a tour of the campus.

The program will develop and enhance the following skills:

  • Creativity and innovation
  • Leadership
  • Communication—both oral and written
  • Team building
  • Presentation style

The cut-off date for Admission Applications, Code of Conduct Forms and the $50 application fee is June 2, 2014. Class size is limited to ensure participation in discussions and activities. Students are encouraged to apply early.

Highlights of E.S.C.A.P.E.

Over 50 high school students have attended the Entrepreneurship Summer Camp and Personal Enrichment (E.S.C.A.P.E.) program at the H. Wayne Huizenga College of Business and Entrepreneurship since it began in 2010. All participants arrived at camp with an idea for a business that they would like to start. The instructors were highly impressed with these innovative business ideas, and throughout the week helped get them on the right track to developing ethical businesses. The campers displayed maturity through their insightful questions and while delivering their elevator speeches and business plan presentations.

Synopsis of the week:
Day 1: Why innovation and creativity are important in developing a product or service
Day 2: How to handle unethical situations; what should go into a mission statement; introduction of the business plan
Day 3: The importance of marketing and social networking; critiquing of elevator speeches by a PR pro
Day 4: Personal and business financial planning; understanding the vital importance of the cash flow analysis and start-up costs
Day 5: How to conduct business with style and grace; presentations of business plans to a panel of young entrepreneurial executives
