Effective Feedback Across Generations

1 Full Day

Definition of Feedback: Letting others know in a straightforward manner how well they have performed in order to grow and develop them.

This is a core leadership skill and one that requires coaching skills. Participants learn how to:

  1. build trust, support employees and open up communication,
  2. have the courage to address behavior when it happens,
  3. invite the employee to examine a behavior,
  4. connect the behavior to the impact it may have on themselves or others.

Structure to be learned:

  • Establish trust and connection
  • Restate the expectation at a Level lll communication
  • Share the observation
  • Communicate the impact.
  • Establish new expectations

Understanding what is most important, what values each generation holds dear, plays into effective feedback. The leader can better understand the behavior and how to communicate the expectations when he/she understands the focus of each generation.

How to approach the differences in generations and gender and how they each process, plays a part in constructive feedback. Currently, four generations are operating side-by-side in the workforce, with Gen Z soon joining the workforce. The manager will engage each one when he/she understand the characteristics of the Traditionals, Baby Boomers, Gen X and Gen Y.

In an interactive 6 hour training, participants will practice the tools and coaching skills with each other in groups with actual real-time role plays.
