Why Study the M.S. in Real Estate Development at NSU?
If you’re ready to move beyond basic transactional work, NSU’s Online M.S. in Real Estate Development positions you for higher-impact roles in development, acquisitions, asset and portfolio management, capital markets, consulting, or banking. You continue in your current role and location while you build the skills to analyze markets, underwrite and value assets, and originate or evaluate new investment opportunities. The program is intentionally career-oriented and industry-applied, helping you translate every major assignment into something you can discuss with employers—deal memos, pro formas, and project analyses that demonstrate you can think like an owner, lender, or investor.
You don’t have to design your career strategy and your learning experience alone. Faculty and staff work with you on study plans, networking tactics, and interview preparation so you can connect coursework directly to your next role or promotion. The business school has dedicated staff to assist you with these efforts. You become part of a broader professional community of classmates, alumni, and industry partners, giving you multiple entry points into conversations, referrals, and opportunities.
If you want to explore new sectors, internships offer a practical pathway. The MSRED connects you with opportunities in development, finance, marketing, consulting, and public-sector and private entities so you can apply what you’re learning while you study online. These roles help you build your résumé, expand your network, and test different asset types or business models before you commit to a long-term path. For many students, an internship becomes either a springboard to a new position or a way to bring fresh insight and credibility back to their current employer.
Effective recruiting support means real visibility into jobs that match your skills and ambitions. The program shares job postings directly with students and alumni and helps employers connect with you through digital résumé referrals and virtual interviews, so distance or travel constraints don’t limit your access. You’ll also participate in online company spotlights, guest talks, and information sessions that put you in front of decision-makers and allow you to ask candid questions about culture, expectations, and growth paths. Over time, these repeated touchpoints help you build a recognizable professional presence in the market.
If you’re looking for guidance from someone who has already navigated the industry, the Executive Mentor Program is a standout feature. After you complete several courses and meet GPA requirements, you can enter a year-long, one-on-one mentorship with an experienced real estate leader. Mentors—often members of NSU’s Real Estate Executive Council—span disciplines and asset types, including residential, commercial, industrial, finance, investment, law, design, construction, and marketing. They offer candid feedback on your goals, help you see around corners on major career decisions, and often become long-term advocates and trusted references as you advance.
If you learn best by connecting theory to real projects, the online Field Studies experience turns South Florida into your virtual urban laboratory. Through virtual site tours, detailed project walk-throughs, and case-based assignments, you study how developments are conceived, capitalized, entitled, built, and stabilized. You hear directly from the professionals behind these projects about what worked, what didn’t, and why. These applied stories and analyses give you concrete examples to draw on in interviews, client meetings, and internal presentations, demonstrating that you understand not just the numbers but the real-world context behind them.
As an online student, you still benefit from NSU’s partnerships with organizations such as SIOR, ULI, or NAIOP, which open doors to top brokers, investors, and corporate real estate leaders via virtual panels, Q&A sessions, and networking events. You do engage with South Florida as a diverse, globally connected market that illustrates how different product types, capital sources, and development patterns interact over time. The patterns and lessons you see in this “digital classroom” are deliberately chosen to be portable, helping you analyze and operate confidently in your home city, other U.S. markets, or international contexts.
