Practice of Mindfulness: Towards Effective Management and Performance

Program Description

Business leaders are being challenged today in an environment, which is fast-paced, hyper-connected, and technologically focused. There is a growing interest among thought leaders from varied disciplines such as science, medicine, sports, and business that the practice of mindfulness will enable business managers and employees to develop the required capabilities for effective management and to enhance performance. In addition, organizations will be able to cultivate and develop the leadership potential of their employees through the practice of mindfulness. The workshop will consist of interactive discussion, understanding the nature of the mind, recognize the barriers, learn techniques to overcome the barriers, simple exercises for daily practice, guided meditation and individual feedback (depending on size of the group). Real world situations will be discussed and participants are encouraged to bring their cases to the workshop.

Learning Outcomes

By completing this session, you will have the foundation to:

  1. Develop self-awareness (awareness of your strengths and developmental needs for weaknesses) and situational awareness
  2. Identify your goals clearly, prioritize conflicting demands, and remain focused
  3. Improve your learning agility, grasp complex issues, explore solutions keeping an open mind, and remain adaptable and future-centric
  4. Make right decisions, remain passionate and steadfast despite being faced with uncertain situations and ambiguous information
  5. Learn simple exercises to practice mindfulness on a regular basis
  6. Implement guided meditation sessions for your employees for self-development

Audience

This program will be useful for individuals at all levels of an organization and any functional area. Participants will be able to take away lessons for self-development, and in particular how to become effective managers, leaders, and professionals.

Instructor

Arvind Gudi, Ph.D.

Dr. Arvind Gudi is an Assistant Professor of Decision Sciences in the H. Wayne Huizenga College of Business and Entrepreneurship at Nova Southeastern University.

He holds a Ph.D. in Business Administration and a Master of Science degree in Management Information Systems. He received a bachelor’s degree in Electronics and Telecommunications engineering. His teaching interests include Management Information Systems, MIS Strategy and Policy, Business Intelligence and Analytics, Service Operations Management, and Business Statistics. His research is focused on the challenges of knowledge management and knowledge integration in the field of emergency (disaster) management. He is currently working on a collaborative research project funded by the grant award for "NSU Quality of Life Faculty Community-based Applied Research".

Prior to academic research and teaching, he has extensive industry background in systems strategy and development and project management. He has held several professional and management positions with consulting and private companies with national focus as well as international diversity. His research and consulting in public-sector organizations include NASA and Miami-Dade Emergency Operations Center.

Bringing insights from his management background, Dr. Gudi passionately demonstrates to his students the essential link between academic theory and practice in the real world. He has also founded the Mindfulness Society at HCBE. He serves as faculty coach and advisor, and conducts seminars and workshops for the professional and personal development of all the members.
